Maria's Challenge - A week on slimming world - Day Seven

Day Seven - Sabotage?!!

The day started quite promisingly I could see without the lights - it is still summer! However, it was going to be one of those days dieters dread, where something completely unexpected jumps up and ruins all your plans.
Today was the day of our Fraud Team Fun Event - words enough to strike terror into all but the most extroverted of employees. As I work from 6am to 2pm I usually miss out on all the "fun", but this year as fate may have it I was able to attend. Now I'm nothing if not observant and every year as colleagues flow out of the building to participate in some sort of "It's a Knockout" style afternoon (returning the next day either with the sniffles or baked to a crisp!) they normally grab a paper lunch bag filled with a cheese sandwich, a bag of Walkers, an apple, a can of pop and a granola bar. I knew this would be no good for my weight loss journey, so smug as you like I prepared myself with an alternative lunch of  fruit salad, raspberry quark, a bag of Sensations Poppadoms, a Nature Valley Popcorn bar and an apple and off to work I went.

Breakfast

Off to the canteen to set myself up with bacon (fat removed, free), beans (free), fried egg - bit crispy today (1 syn) and tinned tomatoes (speed).
Black coffee of course, third of the morning already, I really do need to take that in hand!
It was when I returned to my desk and the e-mail had arrived outlining the plans for "fun day" that I realised I'd been scuppered and was not going to be able to eat my lunch on an overcast grassy bank, watching the coats while the younger members of the team wrestle in Sumo suits whilst being hosed down with foam! We were inside and we were going to have a sit down dinner!

Dinner

How exciting to discover that we were going to Colwick Hall for a Murder Mystery afternoon, I've always wanted to do one and never managed it. It's a really simple concept that manages to fill a couple of hours, over a meal - a dead body, a comedy Sherlock Holmes, absolutely Puntastic team and police officer names "Ann Cuffs" and "Tequila Mockingbird! We were given an evidence pack and clues are released every now and again. The aim is to deduce who killed who and why by asking questions and requesting pocket searches, fingerprints, forensics and criminal records. Your success all hinges on asking the right questions. The actual culprit we eliminated early on for being too boring and having no motive - we just hadn't asked the right questions! I panicked when we got to the table when I realised not only was it a sit down dinner, but a 3 course meal!
I managed to secure myself a small wholemeal roll, which I decided would be my Health B, obviously unable to check the weight, but it was small.
The starter was a fishcake, with leaves and some tartar sauce. It appeared to be baked and was quite small, very tasty made from mash and white fish and prawn, coated in a crumb. I will guess it as 4 syns. Not a bad choice for a starter, there was no grease or oil on the plate.

Each course was interjected with frantic discussion and question asking, at one point we had to dust a glass for fingerprints and requested the contents of the Dr Penny's pockets to be presented with a syringe, some balloons and a photo of a mans bottom..the mind boggles.
Dinner was a pie - well it would be wouldn't it, filled with steak, mini onions and mushrooms - I ate the filling and left the pastry (sacrilege I know!) and ate the mash and vegetables. It was a shame the gravy had already been put on as I could have saved some syns there, as it was I gave it 4 syns as there was only a tiny quenelle of mash and I hardly had any gravy as the majority of it was on the pastry.
Inevitably, as always happens with a 3 course meal pudding time arrived. There are so many puddings like rich chocolate cake that I don't like, or things like apple pie that is more of a home pudding that I could have just rejected without a second thought, but no - it had to be Cheesecake and blooming Honeycomb Cheesecake at that, what was I supposed to do? As it happens I was in the middle of discussing a very important point in a case and didn't even notice it arriving, the temptation was too much and I dug in. Hallelujah, it was horrible, not a cheesecake in texture and quite tasteless...a couple of spoonfuls to make sure, but I was able to slide it out of the way and move on, I would still have to guess at 5 syns for the tiny bit I ate. Progress! Before Slimming World I would have just eaten it anyway! The meal was finished off with a coffee whilst we learnt in comedy fashion who had won and what the verdict was, we came up with a great idea, but it was way off the mark.

Tea

To be honest by the time I got back to my car I was starving, so I was very happy to find an apple (speed) in my bag.
I had to nip to the shops on the was home, here we go again - did you know Cadbury have some new chocolate biscuits called Roundelles that you can buy individually wrapped in that lovely purple foil, I did not buy it nor any of the Thornton's Caramel Sticks that were reduced to a £1. In fact I had nothing, I just got in my car and went home.
At home, I made my tea, a garden salad (all speed), pickles including Baxter's Deli Slaws which are amazing and free, a stir fry of some chicken (free) and mushrooms (speed) and some scrambled eggs (free) because I was craving them. It was super filling and so when coffee came around tonight I didn't have anything with it - I know, unheard of!

In summary

Healthy A - none
Healthy B - wholemeal rolls
Syns - a guesstimate of  15 syns

Types of vegetables - 8

Too much coffee, not enough water

Leftovers though!......

Well that's seven days and tomorrow morning 8 am it's weigh day, who knows what will happen after today, feeling pressure as I've invited my readers in on the expectation that 3lbs will go, would be great if it does, a loss would be good, I would be disappointed with anything else, I will post again tomorrow whatever the result. Next week, it's girly road trip to Center Parcs.
