Toothless!

A quick blog from the Bungalow today, you may have noticed I have been a bit sporadic lately and that's due to my failing laptop, Facebook followers will also know I've not been having a great time getting my hands on my hands on it's lovely replacement. Ah well, that's why the blog got the name "The Bungalow Blues", I don't blog about many blues these days thank goodness!

Round about October time Lauren's two front teeth started to become loose. I was excited but also filled with trepidation, children look so strange with that big gap and then even more weird for a while when they have two great big "tombstone" teeth, until the rest of their body catches up. I remember my dad calling me "rabbit teeth" when mine grew through, they were huge and helpfully had a gap big enough for a bus to drive through to add to the kookiness and meaning that I didn't smile on photos for a couple of years!

I worried that they would fall out before Christmas so all her birthday and festive photos would be all gappy, I don't why,  all children go through it, it's a landmark, a sign of growing up.

Anyway, Christmas came and went and the teeth were intact until last week when one reached critical wobbliness, girly tension increased, every food item not of a mashed potato consistency brought Lauren out in a flood of tears, especially when pain was accompanied by blood, I am blessed with a child who thinks our bodies run on 5ml of blood and every small injury is met with a sense of doom (thanks to Tracey Pounder for giving me the idea of showing Lauren a pint glass and explaining how much blood we really have - it's done the trick for now). Then finally over a slice of toast, there was a shout of "mum, dad I thought I had something curvy in my mouth and it's my tooth!" and all was well again.

We had a slight trauma in that the tooth fairy couldn't take the tooth on the Saturday night as Lauren was so excited about the tooth fairy/Easter bunny combination that she didn't actually go to sleep, every time the tooth fairy thought about completing the deed, a little voice would shout "mum, what are you doing?"....

She did finally come and swap the offending tooth for a shiny coin after the excitement of Easter was over.

And the good news is Lauren still looks like Lauren, gorgeous!

  1. Lauren you still look lovely. When I was 6, I lost my 2 front teeth. I was abridesmaid that Christmasto my Auntie Win and Uncle Tom's wedding. I spoilt a whole album of photos by not smiling. The family, probably jokingly told me not to smile and I took them quite literally but also with a screwed up mouth and frown. At least you are still smiling. The following year I was a bridesmaid again with greatbig smiles and 2 great big front teeth!
