Loving the Holidays & Product Testing - Levi Roots Caribbean Curry
I'm really enjoying the holidays. I never understand it when I hear people despairing about the holidays and how the kids are going to drive them mad, I love just being with Lauren, from days like today when we've just snuggled up the settee watching a film when we should be out at the park, we've played a key hiding game and done some spellings, we've done the cleaning and played on the computer. We decided on a pyjama day today as we have been so busy. So far we have been to Oxford for Art in Action, seen Cars 2, we've been swimming twice, been to Escape, been to Lanky Bills, been round the pet shop, been for a walk to the Post Office, spent a long time in the park walking and playing and treating ourselves to a bag of chips, we've been to Wheelgate with our passes, Lauren has had a sleepover with ma and danda, she's had a day in holiday club, we've had a family barbecue, play with the cousins, been to work for lunch, been to the Art Gallery and there's so much more to be done - Newark Air Museum, Belton House, Loch Lomond.
Wednesday, Tony was working Leicester so no tea for us until half eight, Lauren had pasta when we got in from swimming.
I don't really like cooking meals from scratch late in the day and after a day of play centres, shopping and swimming I didn't really feel inclined. So I started some rice cooking (see 30.06.11 for rice), then fried some boneless, skinless, chicken thighs in a little oil and added Levi Roots Caribbean Curry Sauce £1.88 Asda and Sainsburys, £1.99 Tesco and Ocado.
I was a bit concerned when it came out of the jar, it was very runny and a bit glossy, glossy sauces make me nervous, although the list of ingredients seemed OK on this occasion, all natural and normal sounding!
20 minutes later I dished up.
The sauce had a definite aniseed taste, strong but not overpowering and a nice subtle, tingle on the tongue kick from the scotch bonnet chillies. The chicken had remained tender and went well with the sauce, which had remained juicy enough to soak into and flavour the rice.
It was a nice sauce for a change, but I don't think I will be making it a regular. There are a few other sauces to choose in the range, I might give one of them a try, but I think it's more likely I will look up a recipe.
That's it for today, night.

No I could never understand why some of my neighbours dreaded their kids being on holiday. We used to love it. It's the term time school routine an d work that is so soul destroying. The curry sauce sounded good, I am always a bit dubious about using them but must admit I have used Tagine sauce twice. We are going to havve chicken and chorizo hot pot tomorrow with my own sauce , Tom is ready and keeps on.
